Techniques
01
Trigger Point Therapy
Targeted pressure to release tight knots in muscle tissue, effectively reducing referred pain and restoring normal range of motion.
04
Muscle Energy Technique
An active functional technique that uses a patient's own muscle contractions to stretch tight muscles and improve joint range of motion.
02
Myofascial Release
A gentle sustained pressure technique used to eliminate pain and restore motion by stretching and smoothing the connective tissue (fascia).
05
Joint Mobilisations
Technique where the therapist moves your limbs through their range of motion to alleviate stiffness and enhance flexibility without effort from you.
03
Deep Tissue Massage
Utilises slow, firm strokes to reach deeper layers of muscle and fascia, making it ideal for treating chronic aches, pains and stiff necks.
06
Proprioceptive PNF
A more advanced form of flexibility training that involves both the stretching and contraction of the muscle group being targeted.
Trigger Point Therapy
Trigger point therapy is a specialized form of remedial massage that focuses on identifying and releasing 'knots' or trigger points within the muscle fibers. These points often cause referred pain, where the discomfort is felt in a different part of the body than the actual source.
By applying sustained pressure to these specific areas, we can effectively deactivate the trigger point, reducing localized tension and restoring the muscle's natural length and function. This technique is particularly beneficial for chronic headaches, jaw pain, and long-standing muscular imbalances.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage is designed for those who prefer a firmer touch and need to address deep-seated muscular tension. This technique utilizes slow strokes and intense pressure to reach the deeper layers of muscle tissue and the surrounding fascia.
It is exceptionally effective for breaking up scar tissue and physically breaking down muscle 'knots' or adhesions that can disrupt circulation and cause pain. While it can be intense, the long-term benefits include reduced inflammation, lower stress levels, and the resolution of chronic pain patterns.
Joint Mobilisations
Joint mobilizations are passive movements of a joint by the therapist within or at the limit of its normal range of motion. Unlike a high-velocity thrust, these are gentle, oscillatory movements aimed at restoring joint play and reducing stiffness.
This technique is essential for individuals recovering from injury or those suffering from degenerative joint conditions. By increasing the production of synovial fluid (the joint's natural lubricant) and stretching the joint capsule, we can significantly reduce pain and noise within joints while enhancing fluidity of movement.
Myofascial Release
Myofascial release is a gentle, yet deeply effective technique aimed at the fascia—the web-like connective tissue that surrounds every muscle and organ in the body. When restricted, fascia can exert immense pressure on nerves and muscles, leading to pain and limited mobility.
Using slow, dragging motions and sustained pressure, our therapists work to stretch and smooth the fascia. This technique helps to unstick layers of tissue that have become adhered due to injury or poor posture, resulting in a significantly improved range of motion and a feeling of 'lightness' throughout the body.
Muscle Energy Technique
Muscle Energy Technique (MET) is a collaborative form of treatment where the patient plays an active role. It involves the patient performing precise muscular contractions against the therapist's resistance, followed by controlled stretching of that same muscle.
This neurological approach resets the muscle's resting length and improves joint mobility by utilizing the body's own energy and reflexes. MET is frequently used to correct pelvic imbalances, neck stiffness, and restricted movement in the spine, providing rapid and lasting improvements in functional range.
Proprioceptive PNF
Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) is regarded as one of the most effective forms of flexibility training. It combines passive stretching with isometric contractions to trick the nervous system into allowing a deeper stretch than would be possible otherwise.
By engaging the Golgi tendon organs through muscle contraction, PNF induces a reflexive relaxation of the muscle (autogenic inhibition), which allows for an immediate increase in range of motion. It is the gold standard for athletes and patients needing to regain functional flexibility after surgery or immobilization.
